Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition that can affect physical functioning, cognition and psychological wellbeing. Alongside neurological symptoms, individuals may experience changes in memory, attention, processing speed or executive functioning, as well as difficulties with mood, anxiety, adjustment and adapting to the uncertainty of living with MS.

Dr. Patel provides psychological and neuropsychological support for individuals living with MS, with a particular focus on the cognitive and psychological consequences of neurological illness. Assessment focuses on understanding the difficulties experienced by the individual, their impact on everyday functioning, and the relationship between cognitive, emotional and neurological factors.

Where appropriate, assessment may include formal neuropsychological testing to examine areas of cognitive functioning in greater detail and inform recommendations or ongoing support.

Psychological intervention is individually formulated and can draw on cognitive, behavioural and psychodynamic approaches, depending on the individual’s presentation, circumstances and goals.

Individuals living with MS, or clinicians considering a referral, are welcome to get in touch to discuss whether a psychological or neuropsychological assessment or intervention may be appropriate.
